Getting More Out of Your Home Workout

Getting More Out of Your Home Workout

The majority of our athletes do their entire training program in their home. Home workouts can be very convenient for a lot of people, if done properly. This training structure can be a hit or miss, as many people feel less productive and more distracted when they opt to train in their home. Being conscious of a few tricks and understanding what may be taking away from that experience can provide you an opportunity to save time and provide ease.

Tips for a Productive Home Workout:

1) CREATE A SPACE

Just as it is important to separate work from life, that is true for exercise as well. Exercising at home can be intruded by other responsibilities and distractions. Set up a designated space within your house that is strictly for exercise and is already set up with any and all equipment you may need.

2) HAVE A PLAN

This can come in many forms from following a training program to simply writing out the workout before actually beginning. Having something already planned will motivate you to stay committed to doing it as well as making sure you complete a workout in entirety. It is common to do a few exercises then get distracted or lose motivation but you can combat this by having a structured task that needs to be completed.

3) PUT IT IN YOUR SCHEDULE

Physically add it to your weekly calendar to designate a time each day for your workout. Try to find free time in your schedule to add exercise into your daily routine. Seeing that time block on your calendar will help keep you accountable and committed throughout the week.

4) MINIMIZE DISTRACTION

This goes along with creating a space, but taking it one step further. Avoid starting other tasks right before your workout or attempting to multitask. For example, be sure the laundry machine or oven isn't going to start beeping in the middle of your workout. Another good practice is to keep technology out of the workout space. Avoid checking your phone or computer during this time. Make it strictly exercise in your designated workout space and time, everything else can wait.
